Toby Lopata is a young artist from Australia who has been drawing and painting from a young age. Born in 2013, Toby is currently 11 years old and has shown great excellence in the field of art, particularly in the area of portraiture. In 2023, Toby's artistic abilities were recognized when he won the prestigious Young Archie Award which is an Australian portraiture competition held in New South Wales. Toby's win in the Young Archies and every other small prize speaks volumes about his art. Learn More
YOUNG ARCHIE '23
Last year, in 2023 I won the prestigious Young Archie award in the 9 - 12 category.
"I have chosen to depict my grandpa in my portrait. He is 86 years old and was a child survivor of the Holocaust. He arrived in Australia when he was 11 years old and became a scientist who helped people to have babies using IVF. Currently, he is recovering from cancer. My grandpa holds a special place in my heart. I was inspired by [German artist] Paula Modersohn-Becker’s self-portraits to create this painting of him."
